Can I just say that Hellvar is playing tomorrow /the 8th of October in Sodoma Reykjavik at 21.15. We also play a few off-venue gigs at the Airwaves festival next week, in Havari, in a hostel downtown, in Smekkleysa and some more, all to be advertised better when the time comes. We then play in Nasa on Saturday the 16th of October at 19.30 as one can see on the Airwaves schedule.

m´kay, við erum búin að spila eina órafmagnaða tónleika á sænska veitingastaðnum DA BA í gær. fórum svo í viðtal á útvarpsstöð í grenndinni klukkan 9 í morgun og ég og elvar spiluðum krummi svaf í klettagjá og give me gold. svo erum við að tjilla yfir okkur í dag, fórum í sund hjá yndislegri listakonu áðan og ætlum að fara út að ganga eftir um klukkustund, þangað til er verkefnið "gera ekkert" í fullum gangi. gigg á morgun, svo ferð til borgarinnar sem mun halda nær endalaust áfram (eða til 17. ágúst). búin að prufa nokkra rootbeer, cream soda og einn birch-beer. fékk rootbeer-float áðan, í fyrsta sinn. gott. síjú.

We have a drummer, and are going to USA í August of 2010. Rehearsing a-lot. New songs, for the next album. No idea what it will be called. Only idea I came up with was to take the first two letters of each member of Hellvar and scramble them up, like this:

Elvar - EL
Heiða - HE
Sverrir - SV
Óli - ÓL
Alexandra - AL

This could result in things like:

El Hesvolal
Alsvolheel
El Sval Olhe
Heal el svol

et cetera....

A new year, and no new posts. Until now. Enjoying the bad weather outside by staying in bed with our cat Ljóni and thinking about making a really strong coffee to wake up. Hellvar is preparing to take on the difficult tast of making album number two. Next summer will be our time, in fact May will probably start us off, as the really time-consuming politics will be over, or at least working for the right cause won't be as urgent, after the elections on the 25th of April. So, new year, new energy, new blog, new album, new sound.....maybe a new member for Hellvar???

Elvar broke his toe

Elvar from the band Hellvar broke his toe. He is currently in pain and will sit during the next gig or two or five.
Here is a written statement from Elvar:

Dear friends and fans. I was stepping out of my car when when my toe broke. It was a freak accident and goes to show that we can never take our health for granted. The doctor and nurses at my local hospital will always have a special place in my heart for doing nothing to ease my pain, I hate them!!!!!! and I got charged so much for a few centimeters of tape. I..m fxxkin pissed of.

Hljómsveitin Hellvar bryddar nú upp á nýstárlegri leið til að fagna útgáfu fyrstu plötu sinnar sem heitir Bat out of Hellvar. Föstudaginn 7. desember klukkan 18.00 mun strætisvagn leggja af stað frá Lækjartorgi og innbyrgðis er Hellvar, ásamt öllum sem vilja vera viðstaddir. Strætóinn keyrir hring og á meðan mun Hellvar leika lög af nýju plötunni. Mun þetta vera í fyrsta skipti sem útgáfutónleikar eru haldnir í strætisvagni á Íslandi og verður mjög spennandi að vita hvernig tekst til.
Hellvar er upphaflega samstarfsverkefni Elvars Geirs Sævarssonar og Heiðu Eiríksdóttur og hljómsveitin var stofnuð í Berlín þar sem þau bjuggu. Í ár bættustu svo við gítar- og hljómborðsstúlkan Alexandra Ósk Sigurðardóttir og bassaleikarinn Sverrir Ásmundsson.
Hugmyndina að Strætótónleikunum kom umboðsmaður Hellvar, Atli Kerans, með á fundi þar sem verið var að leita að tónleikastað. Það er staðreynd að strætisvagnarnir eru alls ekki nægjanlega nýttir og þeir eru því laust rými í Reykjavíkurborg. Hljómsveitin greip þessa hugmynd á lofti og naut hún strax mikils stuðnings frá Strætó bs, sem fagna því að strætisvagnar þeirra séu nýttir til að leggja stund á listir.
Auk þess að vera nýjungagjarnir með eindæmum eru meðlimir Hellvar mjög hlynntir umhverfisvernd og finnst því frábært að geta nýtt útgáfutónleika sína til að lokka fólk inn í strætisvagn.
,,Við vonumst að sjálfsögðu til að það verði vagnfyllir", segir Heiða, ,,en hljómurinn í Strætó á enn eftir að koma í ljós. Það kemur þó ekki að sök þótt hann verði ekki fullkominn því það er upplifunin sem skiptir máli. Það að ferðast um götur Reykjavíkur í almenningsvagni og horfa út um gluggann á lífið í borginni á meðan hlýtt er á skemmtilega tónlist hlýtur að vera eitthvað sem verður gert mun meira af í framtíðinni, ef vel tekst til hjá okkur."

Leið Hellvar leggur af stað klukkan 18.00 frá Lækjartorgi og keyrt verður milli Lækjartorgs og Hlemms og að sjálfsögðu er frítt inn.
Fyrir þá sem komast ekki er bent á að Hellvar spilar einnig á Gauki á Stöng laugardagskvöldið 8. desember, á útgáfuhátíð plötuútgáfunnar Kimi Records, sem gefur út plötu þeirra.

Bat out of Hellvar is currently in Berlin. It is so appropriate that the album is being manufactured there. After all, most of the songs were recorded and written in that beautiful city. The band was formed there.
We anxiously await our child.

Hellvar returned from U.S.A. yesterday. We are very happy with the tour, and the reception we got everywhere. People seemed to have liked our music, and it is really inspiring and good to know we are on the right track. Next thing is to finish the making of the first album: Bat out of Hellvar. It will happen in speedtime, as quickly as we can.

The Radio-station gig in WAMC in Albany went better that we were hoping for. We did 5 songs and chatted in between them with Michael Eck the host of Performance Place. Thank you Michael, for a wonderful time! Hellvar is in Albany, still, and slowly waking up and having breakfast right now. Tonight we play at Point 5, in 383.5 Madison Avenue. That will be fun.

Hellvar is playing the following gigs in September. We will play with the Albany-based band called Zahnartz. This is the first time Hellvar playes anywhere but their home-bases Iceland or Berlin. The excitement is building up, as when this is written my plane is leaving in 12 days! Love, Heiða.

Hljómsveitin Hellvar heldur til Berlínar þann 6. október til tónleikahalds. Hellvar spilar á fernum tóleikum en þrennir þeirra eru partur af sameiginlegri tónleikaferð þeirra og New York-sveitarinnar Zahnarzt, en henni kynntust þau í Berlín.

Today and tomrrow Hellvar is gonna play bass. A young alternative filmmaker is gonna use one of our songs in his film. We need to mix a new version of Electric toy for him today. Then we hope to get all bass done before we lie on a sandy beach for a week.
